Hi Moneycircus... I've just subscribed for a year. I hope its helpful, and I also did it because you're a really good writer; and because I've been in a similar predicament in the past, so know what it's like.
Even though I sell a "homeless street mag" aka The Big Issue, I have quite a lot of generous customers and have never been in the position you found yourself in above, except at the very beginning when I hardly had any customers. Some of my customers buy a mag for the next person and say 'pay it forward for the next customer'.
Georgia would be a fascinating place to live in, and have been interested in the geopolitics of the Caucuses and the history of the region. How long have you lived there for?
Obviously, I can't afford to travel there, and now with Event Covid that won't happen. We do what we have to do in these unprecedented times.
I have a lot of respect for Catherine Austin Fitts as well and watched the latest interview she did with Dark Journalist. Excellent!
I mean to live up to your expectations by putting my writing to work. "Art of Lament" began with a different point in mind and your comment gives me the chance to return to it.
Hiccups like housing or life-changing upheavals throw us off course. They scattered my original plans for this newsletter but perhaps in a good way: I've shed the blinkers of financial and 'hard news' reporting and found there are many ways to tell a story:
• analysis that gets closer to names and accountability
• real-world observation in an age of policy-driven modeling, theorizing and stenography
• using inductive reasoning, anathema to our failed media
• to uncover the who, why and how -- not just narratives of what and when
• using creative writing to reveal facets ignored by news reporters
• and to keep it relevant by connecting directly to readers
Event Covid is an opportunity to expose and put things right -- but also to reassert our world. And why should this job have been timed to our convenience?
You're welcome M. Even tho it was a while ago I distinctly remember how I felt in a similar situation and how I barely had money to cover my rent let alone anything else. I must say I love the substack format - much better than Word Press!
