An inspired insight, both in its detail and brevity. I watched a video interview with writer Jim Perrin recently in which he described the move to remove people's physical contact with the land , literally beneath their feet. By turning our attention instead, Perrin said, and focusing it on something vague like 'saving the planet' we are being stopped from having our own personal, lived relationship with a place we know, hopefully, by heart. Like when we ignore individuals and speak only of groups, masses, we all become irresponsible and unmeasured harm ensues.

Thank you for your kind comment.

The reference is profound and yet we can see it around: fewer people's lives allow them to delve into physical matter, or to dig, shape, work, husband the land. First it was enclosed and parcelled, now it is served up in packages. The final stage is to change life itself at the level of DNA.
