Haiti is a microcosm. It is everything that is wrong with the “rules based international order” and has been hanged, drawn and quartered over centuries.
The United Nations is useless. Its peacekeepers rape and spread cholera. “Charities” are exposed at their worst: rapacious money grabbers and traffickers of humans. The inability or unwillingness of the so-called international community to liberate Haiti from orchestrated, man-made desperation has no equal — maybe til Gaza. [1]
Leading globalists are involved: the Clinton Foundation, which played a key role with the Rockefellers in placing Tedros at the helm of the World Health Organisation in preparation for the Covid response.
Even a site like World Socialist Web Site (WSWS org) which upholds the state corporate narrative on Covid gets Haiti largely right.
Last president but one, Jovenel Moïse, was assassinated in 2021 after claiming to have a list of those responsible for drugs and arms trafficking. The U.S. imposed Ariel Henry, whom it has under effective arrest, in the carrousel of blood that is Haiti. [2]
What WSWS doesn't mention is the Clintons' record of exploitation; nor Haiti's only billionaire who owns the newest port, of whom more later.
A useful parallel for Haiti is Panama, which was destroyed as a functioning state by the globalist GHW Bush. Of course Panama is much younger, having been cleaved from Colombia in 1903 to build the canal, construction of which began the next year.
Haiti was one of the Spanish empire's first conquests, as part of the island of Hispaniola, and was ceded to France in 1697, when it became one of the richest sugar-producing colonies. The slaves who produced that wealth rebelled, declaring independence in 1804 — the first independent country of Latin America, only the second republic in the Americas, and the first to abolish slavery.
Then its troubles began. European and American empires ostracised Haiti, and in 1825, king Charles X of France forced it into pay debt for the cost of its "development" and the lost earnings from slaves and sugar, in return for recognising its independence.
Pincered by finance capital, Haiti borrowed at extortionate interest rates from Western banks to pay its debt to France. This is one of the techniques by which imperialists continue to extract wealth from former colonies after their supposed independence.
The same process can be seen in producers of basic foodstuffs and minerals from Argentina to Francophone Africa.
See From Argentina To A Street Near You (Aug 16, 2022)
Since the world faces the threat of depopulation, it barely needs mention that a Haiti which was "reset" or "built back better" would be a prime candidate to join the island lairs of billionaires.
Haiti calling
Globalists seem to require two kinds of territory at the moment: states that cease to function, and "city states" that will become the SMART cities of the future.
Haiti is left hanging on the line, receiving no answer, because it suits the purpose of the rules based international order (RBIO). We are told there is nothing more to say — but, oh, how there is.
Ariel Henry went to Kenya in order to sign a request for a multilateral intervention force, which the U.S. has been seeking for years to disguise the bad optics of yet another U.S. invasion.
Former policeman Jimmy Cherizier used the opportunity to attempt an uprising, closing the airport and attacking police stations.
Cherizier admits that he has allied with criminal gangs that protect and exploit Haiti's version of Rio de Janiero’s favelas in Brazil. That has made him the leader and voice of the home-grown resistance.
Henry cannot get back in the country; the U.S. does not want the poor marching in unity; and the likelihood has to be that the U.S. will provoke renewed gang warfare to destroy any unity.
Henry had sat in power without being elected since 2021, promising a vote every year before postponing every time.
The acting president, a neurosurgeon by trade, took over after a hit squad succeeded in the seventh attempt against the life of president Jovenel Moïse in Jul 2021 after the latter dared to broach reform. The U.S. backed Henry even though he was connected to a suspect in the assassination.
An upsurge in gang violence has forced Henry's resignation - or rather the withdrawal of America's blessing, as the journal Foreign Policy puts it. [3]
The establishment journal admits that food shortage is the main reason for Haitians’ unrest: about half of them are malnourished. It acknowledges that gang violence is equally a matter of vigilantes fighting back to defend their communities. [4]
Just as obvious is an upsurge in propaganda by leading Twitter accounts, which portrayed Cherizier not only as the promoter of gang violence but even claimed his nickname "Barbecue" suggested that he was a cannibal.
Synchronized media
Elon Musk gave his support to the disinformation, retweeting a video of an unknown individual supposedly eating from a burning human leg.
Documentary maker Dan Cohen who has recently returned from filming in Haiti, says the instance of cannibalism was two years old, and came from a gang fight in the central Artibonite Valley, where the most of Haiti's rice was once grown, and had no connection to Cherizier.
Kim Ives, founder of the weekly newspaper Haiti Liberté, told Al Jazeera that the U.S. State Department uses the catch-all phrase "the gangs" for all those who campaign for accountability. "They call Jimmy Cherizier a gang boss. This is the picture they're painting; he was really the anti-gang guy."
The propaganda may be intended to disguise or justify the exclusion of Haitians from an emergency meeting called to impose new leadership.
A rump membership of CARICOM (the Caribbean economic community) held an emergency conference. Jamaica and Guyana fell into line with Washington, accepting Henry's resignation and giving the political groups EDE, RED, Collectif January 30, LAVALAS, Montana, Pitit Desalin, Réveil National a deadline of 24 hours to come up with a new prime minister.
France had the gall (sorry) to attend the CARICOM press conference, along with ministers or leaders of Mexico, Canada, the U.S., Jamaica and Guyana.
The country of 11 million Haitians domestically and a diaspora of four million was not represented.
So the Mainstream Alternative Media (MAM) was activated as a propaganda tool like the Mainstream Media: influencers voicing the same reaction in response to the same stimulus like synchronized swimmers.
It should be a warning to all of us to be on guard especially when fast-moving social networks like Twitter are presented as an alternative source of news and given the patina of authority by figures such as Musk and the president of El Salvador Nayib Bukele, who advised using his patent methods of suppressing gangs.
Cherizier says his nickname, incidentally, dates from his childhood when he helped his mother sell street food.
Rival gangs
Such details obscure and invert the reality, that U.S. policy is to stop Haiti developing as a functioning state — but rather to keep it as a failed state. The popular Jean-Bertrand Aristide was deposed by coup in 1991 and 2004, Jovenel Moïse was assassinated in Jul 2021. In Oct 2022, Eric Jean Baptiste, a former presidential candidate, was fatally shot.
What we witness must be reduced to the simplest terms.
The key reason for underdevelopment is the extractive industries, seeking food and minerals at the cheapest human cost, bypassing government, buying off ministers, and fuelling the appetite of miners for yet more national victims.
Historically, such commodity and mineral miners include the Rothschilds.
“From Nat Rothschild’s investment in Glencore’s convertible bonds to his friendship with chairman Simon Murray, the Rothschild link to Glencore is well documented. But the ties do not end there. Mr Rothschild is close to Oleg Deripaska – whose aluminium group Rusal has Ivan Glasenberg as a director due to Glencore’s 8 per cent stake – and has had discussions with Tony Hayward, Glencore’s senior director, about a natural resources investment fund.
Meanwhile, Lenny Fischer, a fellow Glencore board member and chief of RHJ International, knows another Rothschild well. Lord Rothschild sat on the board of Brussels-based RHJ until 2009 and his RIT Capital is a RHJ investor.” [5]
Before Glencore there was Rio Tinto, another Rothschild dominated corporation, as well as Shell, and The Rothschilds’ Fabulous Stake In Canada. [6]
See Africa’s Rebellion, Hawaii’s Destruction And Smart Cities (Aug 31, 2023)
History echoes. "In 1997, at the age of 23, Dan Gertler acquired his first diamond mine in the DRC."
Compare with:
“Rhodes entered the diamond trade at Kimberley in 1871, when he was 18, and with funding from Rothschild & Co, began to systematically buy out and consolidate diamond mines. Over the next two decades he gained a near-complete monopoly of the world diamond market.”
Projecting blame
Not only is Haiti the poorest country in the Western hemisphere, it lacks work. The official unemployment rate of about 14 per cent disguises the fact that the informal sector accounts for 80 per cent of jobs which are mostly part time.
Of course, gangs are blamed for insecurity, lack of employers, disrupted services such as the fuel crisis a year ago. A dysfunctional state cannot be neutral, a mere absence of services. It is a negative burden on a population, as people across the West are discovering.
Gangs are also used by local political forces and by the intelligence agencies of outside powers, to wage war on competition, disrupt meetings and assassinate rivals.
The past two decades have proved the dictum that what goes around, comes around: the means by which empires repressed and extorted colonies abroad are now being imposed on populations that considered themselves the beneficiaries of such looting.
In order to disguise this, what could be better than to render the natives as cannibals, as if from Daniel Defoe's Robinson Crusoe?
We should be on guard for manipulations from the pages of children's storybooks for they mask the very real cannibalisation of Western economies - including in these past four years the democide of the people.
